Although I usually draw and paint traditional subject matter, I am often thinking up different creative ideas which do occasionally transpire into a finished work. This is one such piece.
What appears at first to be an Aztec-type design, is actually individual alphabet characters comprising the letters M,A,K and E. Each geometric shape has many interlocking versions of the same character; for example, there are over 100 letter 'k's in the K design.
I chose these particular letters, not only because of their functional shapes, but because together they could form a word that has a lot of meaning to me personally: I 'make', I create!
M.A.K.E. is 100% coloured pencil (Prismacolor Verithin) on Crescent All-media board.

A portrait of the late Amy Winehouse drawn in a mix of Faber Castell and Prisma coloured pencils on a 34×26cm cold press illustration board.
Its a human tragedy when one so young and so talented can feel so worthless that self mutilation and eventually self destruction become the best options.
rest in peace Amy.

In 2005 I graduated from the Queensland College of Art with not only a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree but also membership to the Golden Key Honour Society in Recognition of Outstanding Scholastic Achievement and Excellence. It was during my time at uni that I began experimenting with a variety of mediums including acrylic, watercolour, pastel, charcoal, ink and oil. Since then health issues have forced me to pursue an alternative art form, thus a passion for traditional coloured pencils has evolved.

The artwork "From The Garden" incorporates my love of artworks by the Old Masters and their use of greyed complementary colours for their underpainting.
